  • Homam movie review

Actor J D Chakravarthy who has directed couple of Hindi films makes his debut as director in Telugu. Jagapathi Babu’s performance, pre-interval episodes and mother-sentiment scenes have been worked out well.

Malli (Jagapathi Babu) is the son of a criminal. He wishes to become police officer but his family background keeps him away from entering police department. A sincere police cop Vishwanath (Pradeep Rawat) makes him an under cover cop. And thus Malli joins the gang of a big gangster Daddy (Manish Manjrekar) and becomes a covert.

On the other hand Chandu (JD Chekravarthy) is a helper to Daddy's gang who joins police department and works for Daddy.

Mahi (Mamatha Mohandas) is a doctor who falls in love with Malli. The other girl (Madhurima) becomes the love interest to Chandu.

The turmoil starts between Chandu and Malli in second half and finally who wins on who becomes the climax.

First half of the film is racy while the second half is drags and too many songs and a clichéd romantic thread mars the tempo. Jagapathi Babu as spirited cop excels and his performance is big asset. In a scene where he tries to explain his mother that he is not rowdy but real cop and that he’s not telling lies, Jagapathi Babu comes out knockout performance.

J D is perfect foil to Jagapathi and he excels as an actor than being a director. Mamta Mohandas and the other newcomer in the film are wasted. The much talked about Jagapathi and Mamta's erotic song is missing in the final version. Mahesh Manjrekar and Pradeep Rawat are ok. M S Narayana’s comedy track is okay but hinders the pace of the film. Music by J D Chakravarthy is biggest minus to the film. None of the songs are good and the placements are a letdown.

    verdict: Good
